A redesign done carelessly can quietly erase years of search rankings overnight. Here's how to know it's time, and how to make the change without losing ground you've already earned.
A site that isn't mobile-friendly, takes more than a few seconds to load, or hasn't been updated in three or more years is actively costing you jobs, even if traffic numbers haven't dropped yet.
A full list of current page addresses lets you set up proper redirects later, which is the single biggest factor in whether a redesign keeps or loses your search rankings.
If certain service or city pages already rank well, preserve their core content and URL structure in the new design rather than rewriting them from scratch.
A redirect from the old address to the new one tells search engines this is the same page in a new location, preserving the ranking history instead of starting over.
Watch your search traffic and Google Business Profile calls closely for the first two to three weeks after launch so any issue gets caught and fixed quickly.
